Babas are a french small saturated syrup cake.This dessert is very popular in France, it is made of a yeasted dough and decorated with Chantilly cream, dried fruits or any beautiful colorful small sweets.
the Babas are a delicate cake recipe because it is soaked in the syrup that is made of lemon and orange zest which is a feature that makes babas delicious.
The reason I love the babas its because they are fresh and soaked with the amazing syrup flavor of lemons and oranges.
How to make the babas?
Ingredients: ( for 7 babas)
the dough:
- 154g of flour
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 3 large eggs ( room temperature)
- zest of 1 lemon and 1 orange
- a pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons of oil
For the yeast you will need:
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of dry yeast
- 3 tablespoons of warm milk
Syrup ingredients:
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 cups of water
- zest of 1 lemon and 1 orange
Preparation of the babas:
- first things first, you should prepare the yeast of the dough.In a small bowl put 1 tablespoon of dry yeast, sugar, and milk mix with a spoon until the yeast dissolve.Cover the mixture with a paper film and let it double the volume for about 20 minutes.
- Now preparation of the syrup: in a casserole put sugar, zest of lemon and orange, lemon and let the syrup boil for 10 minutes.After you prepare your syrup let it cool and put it in the fridge.
- After the preparation of the yeast and the dough now its the preparation of the dough: in a large basin put flour, sugar, zest of lemon and orange, a pinch of salt and eggs.Mix the ingredients together with a whisk, add the yeast that you prepared before to the dough and whisk again until the ingredients become soft.Finally, add 4 tablespoons of oil and mix again, you will notice that the dough will become soft and shiny.
- Cover the dough and allow it to rise for 30 minutes.
- preheat the oven to 180° c.On the other hand, prepare your molds by powdering them with flour.
- After 30 minutes Cover your molds with the dough using a tablespoon.Once you finish let the molds aside for 15 minutes to allow the dough to rise again above the molds.
- After 15 minutes bake the babas until they turn golden brown.
- Remove the babas from the molds and soak them immediately before they cool into your syrup and turn them several times.
- Once you finish soaking all your babas prepare the Chantilly cream to decorate them and put any dry fruits you desire on the top.
